William Morgan is founder of Restless Egg Studio, the incubator for artist-founders, creators who treat technology as their canvas. William is also a philosopher and trader whose interests resides at the intersection of cybernetics, finance and artificial intelligence. Previously William took part in Medialab Matadero's Collaborative Prototyping Lab#03 where he worked on the online experimental game, Interplay, which investigated the conditions under which collective intelligence emerges.
Prior to this, William joined the inaugural class of studio fellows at Antikythera, a think tank seeking to reorient planetary computation housed within the Berggruen Institute in Los Angeles. There, he worked on Autocatallaxy, which examined the evolutionary history and future of prices as information technologies, positing that price itself might be said to possess a kind of intelligence, as well as HAIID or Human-AI Interaction Design, which suggested that the paradigm of human-computer interaction is evolving on account of AIs increasingly sensing and modeling subtle human behaviors psychosocial phenomena.
William completed his PhD in the Department of Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley where he was a member of the Berkeley Center for New Media and the editorial board of the journal, qui parle. His work has previously appeared in e-flux, Theory, Culture & Society, Sustainability, Media Theory, Finance & Society, qui parle and with Caldo Worldwide.
